Resolved Question: Has the time finally come for Britain to stand up for itself?
I am not against immigration in small amounts. Nor am I against anyone coming here to learn. But all these people pouring into our small island has got to slow down.
However, there are a few things that those
who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of the Brits being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Brits we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Indian, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese,
Japanese, Russian, orany other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!
"Land of Hope & Glory" is our motto. This is not
some Christian, right wing, political slogan We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented
It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you
consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.
If the 'Union Jack' flag offends you, or you don't like our Queen, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. Webare happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is
OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our Laws give every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag,
our lifestyle our government, or ourway of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great BRITISH freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
It is Time for Gt. Britain to Speak up
Nigel.....No no no....lol...I meant for the immigrants to leave if they are not happy with the way we do things here.
Glen...and what double standards would those be then?
COLIN..would those be the immigrant workers in the NHS that were on a documentary recently because wards weren't getting cleaned properly as they couldn't undertand the instructions they were given?
would they be the immigrant workers what work in a nursing home near me with demenita patients, who find it hard to understand some British accents never mind a foreign one, so get frustrated and maybe lash out. In the end they get classed as violent. Don't agrue with me on that one as i work with dementia patients.
and i am not preaching God. stop being so paranoid, would you have the nerve to say that to a marching muslim who ? I bet you would run a mile. AND YES !!! God IS part of our culture. the same as many cultures, which were started by a religion, not all of them follow it nowadays like yourself, and in many countries everyone is not religious.. We are speaking about how our country started off, and why it has to change to suit the needs of people not born here. IT'S NOT ABOUT YU
S WORKER......ridiculous isn't it. And the thing is that when they can't understand you, they get annoyed with you......hellooooo??
Plato.....well...bloody hell it's nearly 2am...i didnt notice. ive been babysitting all evening and if that doesn't keep my mind alert then nothing does....lol. laptop in bed and watching tv. bliss!! lol
Rich......please don't start to twist my words to suit yourself. If you read it properly i said im not against it in small amounts. You are American, therefore you speak English, you more than likely were brought up the same way as us. I am getting at the ones who come here and want US to change for THEM!! Can you imagine us going to Saudi Arabia and demanding that women should be able to drive, and that we want to drink as we are Brits..............I think not!!, unless you want to lose a limb or two or get 100 lashes
Happy Trucker......If you be the pilot the rest of us can be the stewards and make sure they get there....lol
Lil Miss.....yes i know we don't know how to protest. if we protested the way the muslims have been doing we would be accused of racism and stopped. We need a march, some way of getting to the government, so they can hear us and more importantly listen to us. A meeting with Gordon Brown would be the utmost way to do it. as face to face is the best and most honest way.
JK8846..........only the unintelligent make accusations because they are too stupid to have a proper opinion
Egbert.........All i can say to is....Well spoken. Thank you.
Stephen...i understand. the amount of times i have been called a member of the BNP on here, just because i have spoken my mind about immigrants, is unreal. even some misguided citizens don't allow you to have the freedom of speech.
Bring me Sunshine......I don't support the Monarch either. They are a waste of taxpayers money. But i meant the leaving part for the immigrants who come here and complain, not for the natural born community. It is an individuals choice whether he belives in God or supports the queen, but don't COME to this country (when you know what it was all about in the first place,)and start complaining about it.

Im 17, flying to canada alone to visit relatives. As it was the cheapest options i have decided to travel by air india. Open Question: Should I learn Arabic, or Farsi, or Urdu, or...?
My career (media/intl. development) is going to take me overseas. I plan on spending most of my life living/traveling in North Africa, and the Middle East (as well as Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, too). I started learning Arabic, but it has come to my attention that it may be more beneficial to learn something else, first.
My question is, which language would be best to learn for now? I know English, French, and Spanish, and I plan on learning others eventually, but want to focus on one at a time.
Please no "Well if you want to live in _______ than you should learn __________" or "Well ___________ is easier, so learn that"
I will be spending time in many places (Morocco, Iran, UAE, Egypt, etc....), and just want to know which language would be most understood by all.
Thanks friends! :)

Resolved Question: Why most of Indian people call Laloo Prasad Yadav , M A (Pol. Sci) to be an illiterate ?
Most of Indian people call Laloo Prasad Yadav, Union Railway Minister an illiterate though he is MA in Political Science & was offered honourary Ph D degree by Patna University few years ago which he refused to accept too. Many who don't have even passed high school too call him so without finding out reality. He is famous for his typical accent of his Hindi which is openly ridiculed by many TV men too particularly Shri Ashutosh who looks like an insane person by look & whose Hindi itself is very funny & unusually bad. Lalooji's mother tongue is actually Bhojpuri but for the country he has to speak Hindi but the accent remains that of former language. He speaks in slightly singing style like Ram Datt Tripathi, BBC Radio corresponent from Lucknow, the place of most sophisticated Hindi & Urdu languages. He speaks in a way to create a lot of humours too which is rediculed by most of Indian mediamen of so called high castes. Why did mediamen clarify as responsibility that he is M A ?
It is to be noted that Laloo is a great history maker in Bihar that prior to his taking over as Chief Minister in 1989 end by Devi Lal's efforts, Bihar was witnessing burning of entire villages of Harijans & others so called Sceduled Castes & Sceduled Tribes were being burnt killing over 300 people by goons of High Caste people in general & frequent organised communal riots(like the same organised by VHP etc. in Gujarat) were taking place & none was doing anything for over 4 decades. Worst was communal riots in entire Bhagalpur district before election of 1989 done by VHP. After his taking over as CM, he took stern actions to prevent such things so strongly that never in next 15 years till he was in power there any big riot took place, a great rare achievement indeed. Only jealous VHP terrorists criticise him for no genuine reasons as those were braught to book there. So, they did the same in Gujarat where state machinary supported them & not discouraged like Laloo. Isn't it ?

Resolved Question: Is this our true voice?
Will we still be the Country of choice and still be
Gt Britain if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the
people from other countries that came to live in Britain because it is the
Country of Choice?????? Think about it . .
All I have to say is, when will they do something
about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated
by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be
Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas holiday, it's Winter Break. Isn't it
amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all!
This is an editorial written by a British citizen, published in a National newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!
IMMIGRANTS,
NOT BRITS MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on the 7th of the 7th we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the disgust about the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge
against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain,
However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to
our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of the Brits being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britain's we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. Freaky.....no deary not at work. not till i go there to do a night shift tonight in a greatly unerstaffed nhs hospital, to work with the elderly most of whom fought for this country and its freedom
Filya...that is true, we have no backbone, but we have to get together and reinstate this country to what it used to be...United! never mind our own little petty arguements between our own four countries, now is the time to put them behind and be a nation again
Xull.......i would love to be a political activest. i would be a very contriversial one because i dont worry about pc stuff and speak my mind. Just wouldnt know where to start and dont think i would like the public life anyway
Bring me sunshine.......im not saying everyone is a christian, but this is classed as a christian country. Egypt is a muslim country but they have churches for the christains that live there
Kamran.........lol @ BNP...You are acting like a prat again, by immigrants i mean EVERY nation, not just muslim. I know a good consultant psychiatrist at work who specialises in paranoia.....i can get you an appointment if you so wish
Kamran......can you find one part of that question that i inferred that we are blaming the immigrants?.......you said that not me......and on that subject....is it our politicians who want sharia law........??!!........now, i have to get to work, you just sit where you always do!!
Xull......you seem to be the only one im pi**ing off. i am entitled to my opinions on here the same as every one else. not everyone likes to be in the public spotlight, and dont think that is because i couldn't say to peoples faces what i say on here, i certainly would, especially to the likes of you. Now go and TRY and pick on someone else.
Mr geo clooney,,,you are obviously thicker than your wife!!
KAMRAN........IF you take the time to read the question you will notice that is was not ME who said that but the person who had the quote in the newspaper.....!!

Resolved Question: Take a step forward - muslims in India. PART III?
Urdu is a good language but a dead language like that of Sanskrit. Even Hindu pandits are getting their children educated in English schools and colleges in India AND ABROAD. Why don't you follow suit and convert your madarasas into modern day schools and give a tough competitions IITs, IIMS, and then to all private farms.
all iam asking the muslims who are as indian as the so called Aryan Hindus , to see reason and take a step forward. There are several instances where Muslims in india have excelled despite all odds. Modern teaching and the technology will help youth excelling in all fields . If there are discreminations even then whole country will be with you. A few Modi's or for that matter a few Bajrang Dals will not do any harms .

Resolved Question: Why is there a lack of good Hindi/Urdu learning material?
I've always wondered why there's such a lack of Hindi/Urdu learning material. Except for "Teach Yourself Hindi" and a few others, barely any materials exist and no modern college textbook exists. This is curious considering the fact that India is growing big now and HindiUrdu has so many speakers; true most of the elite in India knows English, but I'm sure deeper dealings can only be done once you know the lingua franca of South Asia.
Compare this situation with the situation of Arabic and Chinese, two similarily growing languages. There is no lack of textbooks, dictionaries, grammar aids, and classes in those two languages anywhere in the USA, in bookstores, in media propogation, etc. The question is why is this situation so, and will it change in the future or not?

Resolved Question: I suck at everything -- and still want to go to Harvard?
Is it possible?
Ok, let me give you some backround information first. I am a great student. And thats about it. Everyone else is really good at sports, or drama, or their instrument, and i suck. BIG TIME.
I don't play an instrument. I suck at sports, although this spring I will be trying out for Track. I am currently in Drama club, except I am a chorus member. I suck at everything
But im smart. Now, i've heard the age old advice. Take AP'S, do extra-curricular activities, community service, ace the SAT'S and PRAY.
But what can i do in MIDDLE SCHOOL TO PREPARE MYSELF. Im in 7th grade by the way
Im taking the SATS for John Hopkins (Center for Talented Youth) this Saturday.. does that count for anything?
Im lost. You have no idea how badly i want to go.
I am Indian, and i am currently learning how to read Arabic (I am a muslim) and i can speak Urdu. In school, I am learning Latin and English is my first language.
In the future, i hope to extend on Arabic and Urdu .
CONTINUATION :
In the future, i hope to extend on Arabic and Urdu by learning how to speak, read, write and understand each language. And hopefully, Im going to start doing community service early so I can rack up with alot of hours.
ALSO, during the summer of 9th grade, Im planning to take college courses at my local community college to get college credit.
When i go to India (Im Indian), I might even volunteer at an orphanage.
Now, i want to stand out. I hope i can. I WILL DO ANYTHING. PLEASE HELP!
Im 13 btw.
Any other tips?

Resolved Question: Should I take Arabic or Chinese classes?
I am an International Affairs major and I want to take an extra language. Of all the languages my college offers, the ones that seem useful are Arabic and Chinese. Currently, I'm learning Japanese and Hindi/Urdu, so I have a gateway into both Chinese and Arabic so to say. Chinese is very simple grammatically but its hard phonetics and use of Hanzi (Chinese Characters) is a bit of a deterent. Also, since I'm taking Japanese I'm not sure if I want to do another East Asian language. On the other hard, Arabic also has some hard sounds; and although its script seems fairly easy, it seems to have a ridiculously hard grammar. All in all, when I look at it, the pros and cons of both Arabic and Chinese equal them out in terms of difficulty for me. And they're both equally useful. So the question is, which one should I take (no, I will not take both at the same time; maybe I'll take the one I don't choose to take in grad school or something)? All advice is welcome.
